Straylight Run - Hands In The Sky (Big Shot)

I used to really like Straylight Run; I went to see them at a bunch of shows around Boston circa 2003, back before they had an album out. This one was off their otherwise disappointing Prepare To Be Wrong EP, which made it all the more surprising. Still kinda makes the hair on the back of my neck stand on end, especially when the shaggy bizzaro-Where The Wild Things Are monsters start breaking everything in the video.

I wonder if I would like this song if I heard it for the first time today rather than when I was 21 and still sort of in an emo phase. Would I just find it overly dramatic and kind of cheesy? Ah, the mysteries of being stuck in our own personal context traveling time linearly and unidirectionally.

Bonus personal trivia: Existentialism on Prom Night is one of the only significant songs I taught myself to play on piano.
